President Zuma to Host 3rd Presidential Local Government Summit

His Excellency President Jacob Zuma will host the 3rd Presidential Local Government Summit on 6 – 7 April 2017 under the theme: “Transforming Municipal Spaces for Radical Social and Economic Development.”

The Summit will assess progress made with the implementation of programme of action agreed upon in 2014 and to agree on the way forward for local government. This Summit is also an opportune platform for the President to engage the leadership in all municipalities across the country on key matters relating to service delivery.

Summit Objectives:

  1. To strengthen the system of local government in the second phase of the Back to Basics Programme, reflecting on successes and challenges.
  2. To set new strategic frame for intergovernmental contribution to the realisation of NDP goals:Managing Municipal Spaces for Radical Social & Economic Transformation.
  3. To discuss the implementation of the Integrated Urban Development Framework (IUDF) and other critical government developmental programmes.
  4. To provide an opportunity for the president to interact with leaders in national, provincial and local spheres of government.
