The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Zweli Mkhize will attend the May Day celebrations at Isaac Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth tomorrow, 1 May 2019.
May Day is celebration of the working class. it is a celebration of the role played by trade unions and other labour formations in the global struggle against inequality and exploitation of workers the world over.
‘The democratic government has since 1994 honoured the role of workers and has, at all material times worked for fair and just labour rights which include the recently promulgated National Minimum Wage which seeks to provide a safety net against extreme exploitation for workers,’’ said Minister Mkhize.
The day will begin with workers marching to the KwaZakhele Police Station where they will hand over a memorandum to police before proceeding to the stadium.
