Minister Richard Baloyi, in partnership with the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SANTAM and Eskom to adopt identified municipalities in the Western Cape Province.
Journalists are invited to the ceremony which will take place as follows: DATE :Wednesday, 06 June 2012 TIME :17:30 – 21:00 VENUE :Old Assembly Restaurant, Parliament, Cape Town
The parties will sign the MoU under the Business Adopt-a-Municipality (BAAM) programme which seeks to foster a close working relationship among government, private sector and state owned entities to support vulnerable municipalities. The programme seeks to encourage private companies to adopt municipalities and enter into Memoranda of Understanding to develop implementation plans to assist them to improve infrastructure development; deal with governance challenges and address issues of local economic development to contribute in job creation and provision of critical skills.
- Minister Baloyi and partners will at the ceremony:
- Explain the initiative of BAAM;
- List the municipalities that will be adopted and their challenges;
- Explain the support that the municipalities will receive; and
- Explain the criteria used to adopt these municipalities
