In the same vein, I would like to thank you for putting your commitments aside to witness this important occasion.  The timing of this conference could not have come at a better time for raising the profile of Women in the Provincial and Local spheres of government.

CoGTA Minister finalises Performance Agreements with Local government MECs and Mayors Print E-mail

The Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Sicelo Shiceka has on Friday (04 June 2010) met with all the Mayors and MECs for local government to discuss and finalize Performance and Service Delivery Agreements which clarify outputs and deliverables that must be met by local government and the provinces in this term of service delivery.

Minister Shiceka ’s meeting with concerned rate payers ends on positive note Print E-mail

CoGTA minister Sicelo ShicekaPretoria, 29 March 2010 – Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Sicelo Shiceka, held a meeting with the Madibeng-based Concerned Rate Payers Association (CORPA) in a bid to understand reasons for withholding rates from municipalities and begin to find sustainable solutions.

CORPA was represented by its chairman, Mr Jaco Dercksen, with members of the executive, Mr Makgopela, Mr Boikanyo and Mr Pretorius.

Mayors to sign performance agreements to improve service delivery Print E-mail

Minister Sicelo Shiceka has outlined the areas which will inform the performance agreement with mayors in all municipalities. The Minister shared this information with local government leadership at the National Members Assembly of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) which is currently underway in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape.

Cabinet Approves Local Government Turnaround Strategy Print E-mail

Cabinet approved a comprehensive Local Government Turnaround Strategy on the 2nd of December 2009.

The Strategy was presented to Cabinet yesterday by the Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr. Sicelo Shiceka. It is underpinned by two important considerations. The first is that a “one size fits all” approach to municipalities is not useful or acceptable. Each municipality faces different social and economic conditions and has different performance levels and support needs. Thus a more segmented and differentiated approach was required to address the various challenges of municipalities.
