To provide support, plan and deploy information and communication technology infrastructure and maintenance within the department. This sub-programme is responsible for creating an Information Technology platform that will ensure the provision and maintenance of data-warehouses, databases and data- storage.
Working very closely with the sub-programmes above, this sub-programme focuses on providing IT resources, systems security, and management of the software and hardware assets that are compatible with international ICT standards.

Objectives and Measures

  • Strengthen and mainstream monitoring, reporting and evaluation (MR&E) for provincial and local government by providing a framework by 31 March 2012;

  • Support the department with research and policy analysis on an ongoing basis, making recommendations for policy development and change by 31 March 2012;

  • Plan, develop and implement a knowledge and information management (KIM) strategy and system to benefit the local government sector by 31 March 2012; and

  • Improve the department’s ICT capability by upgrading information and business technologies by 31 March 2012.
