CoGTA Minister Tsenoli hosts Palestinian counterpart

The Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Lechesa Tsenoli, the Palestine Minister for Local Government,  Saed Al-Koni and his delegation for the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding between the State of Palestine and South Africa, addressing co-operation in the fields of local governance and municipal development.

 

This is the first official visit by the Palestinian Minister, but the visit follows a Commitment to Cooperate document that was signed in Durban between the CoGTA and the Palestine Ministry of Local Government in 2011. The cooperation is based on the needs, interests and potential of both parties, and to set the foundation for launching an exchange and cooperation programme between Palestine and the Republic of South Africa with specific focus on Local Governance and Municipal Development.

Bekkersdal meeting adjourned due to new residents' demands

The meeting between the National and Provincial Departments of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and the Greater Westonaria Concerned Residents Association (GWCRA) was adjourned due to new demands being made by the GWCRA. This meeting follows the announcement, late last year (26th November 2013) by Minister Lechesa Tsenoli, of the intention to commission an independent investigation by a credible body, that is, the Auditor-General.

Yesterday the meeting was called to discuss the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the comprehensive forensic investigation into allegations of maladministration in Westonaria Local Municipality and the Bekkersdal Urban Renewal Project.
