Deputy Minister of CoGTA to address 4th Waste Management Khoro Durban: 14 October 2013

The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Andries Nel, MP, will address the opening session of the 4th Waste Management Khoro being held under the theme: “Making Waste Management a Collective Effort."


The meeting has been convened by the Department of Water Affairs and Environment and will be opened by Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi.

CoGTA annual performance reports in National Assembly and debate in NCOP on visits to provinces

On 8 October 2013 the Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Andries Nel, MP, will lead a delegation consisting of the directors-general and senior officials of the departments of cooperative governance and of traditional affairs to present the annual reports and financial statements of the two departments as well as briefings on a range of matters including the improvement of municipal audit outcomes to the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

South Africa is a much better place now than it was in 1994: Imbizo Focus Week

The Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Lechesa Tsenoli; the Minister for Department of Water Affairs, Ms Edna Molewa and the Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr David Mabuza - in collaboration with Mayor Eva Makhabane of Victor Khanye Local Municipality under the Nkangala District Municipality - will be hosting the Imbizo Focus Week under the Theme: “South Africa is of a much better place than it was in 1994.”


As part of the celebration of democracy in South Africa in Delmas, the Imbizo will focus on the following:

Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to host International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction in Limpopo

The Deputy Minister of CoGTA, Mr Andries Nel; Limpopo Premier, Mr Stanley Mathabatha and MEC for CoGHSTA, Mr Ishmael Kgetjepe will join the rest of the world to celebrate and reflect the importance of disaster risk reduction with a particular emphasis on people living with disabilities.


In 2013, the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) turned its focus on the commemoration for International Day for Disaster Reduction on 13 October to one billion people around the world who live with disabilities.

Cooperation between South Africa and Palestine on local government and development

The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) of South Africa, Mr Andries Nel and the Chairperson of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), Mr Thabo Manyoni, met a Palestinian delegation led by Minister of Local Government, Dr Said Alkoni, and the Chairperson of the Association of Palestinian Local Authorities (APLA), Mr Ghassan Shakaa, at the 4th Congress of the United Cities and Local Government (UCLG) being held in Rabat, Morocco, from 1 - 4 October 2013.
