Ministers Dlamini Zuma and Mthembu Undertake a Joint District…

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and Minister in the Presidency, Mr Jackson Mthembu will undertake a joint District Development Model (DDM) working visit to the Harry Gwala District Municipality from tomorrow, Monday 12 October 2020. The Ministers will be accompanied by the MEC of CoGTA in KZN, Mr Sipho Hlomuka in his capacity as the district champion from Provincial government.

During their working visit, Minister Dlamini Zuma and Minister Mthembu will interact with members of the executive from provincial and local government as well as the strategic stakeholders including the district traditional leadership on issues pertaining to cooperative governance and the implementation of the DDM in particular.

The visit from 12 – 15 October 2020, gives practical expression to section 154 of the Constitution which directs that national and provincial government must support and strengthen the capacity of municipalities to manage their own affairs and perform their functions.

The DDM working visit will primarily comprise of infrastructure assessment exercises, multilateral engagements with targeted stakeholders and the inaugural meeting of the District Development Forum, signifying a milestone in the developmental trajectory of Harry Gwala which is premised on exploiting the district’s endowment for a reimagined shared long-term vision of the district’s development trajectory.

Minister Dlamini Zuma to Visit Waterberg District Development Model…

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will on Saturday, 05 September 2020 visit Waterberg District Development Model (DDM) Hub.

Waterberg District is one of the three DDM pilots which were launched late last year (2019). Minister Dlamini Zuma will be accompanied by the Minister of Small Enterprise Development, Khumbuzo Ntshavheni and they will engage the provincial leadership, MECs responsible for CoGTA – Mr Baiskopo Makamu, Mayor of Waterberg DM – Cllr Morris Mataboge and other provincial MECs, Mayors and Councillors.

The Minister returns to the Waterberg District with two key objectives: to assess progress in respect of the implementation of district COVID-19 response plans, and to provide the much-needed capacity support constituted of technical experts and project managers, who will assist to drive the implementation of the key projects announced on 26 November 2019 during the visit by the President.

Mining and agriculture are key economic drivers of the district. Game farming, livestock farming and irrigated agriculture contribute immensely to the economic development of the district and province.

The DDM is a new integrated planning model that government is using to institutionalise an integrated, district-based, development approach aimed at fast-tracking service delivery and ensuring that municipalities work together, and are adequately supported and resourced to carry out their mandate.

The DDM is a vehicle to ensure that service delivery is refocused and implementation strengthened through a well-coordinated and coherent national programme of action. In this regard, the team of experts will contribute positively to the implementation of key interventions. This integrated plans implemented will go a long way to eradicate inefficiencies and duplications caused by the spheres of government operating in silos.
