The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Zweli Mkhize will brief parliament on the state of local government and traditional affairs and outline plans for the year ahead, when he delivers the CoGTA Budget Vote speech on 15 May 2018
The Minister will outline the programme of action of his portfolio which comprises the Department of Cooperative Governance, the Department of Traditional Affairs, the Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent and the independent Chapter 9 institution, the Commission for the Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities.
He will discuss the state of local government especially given the challenges that he outlined recently regarding support to distressed and dysfunctional municipalities in the country and the plans of the Ministry with regards to strengthening local government which is the sphere that is closest to the people and thus very important.
The Minister will also outline support to the institution of traditional leadership.
Minister Mkhize will be supported by Deputy Minister Obed Bapela and Deputy Minister Andries Nel.
