The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Mr Obed Bapela, will attend the Launch of the Eastern Cape winter initiation season on 12 June 2018.
The Deputy Minister will join the Eastern Cape CoGTA MEC, Mr Fikile Xasa and the Chairperson of the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders (ECHTL) Nkosi Mwelo Nonkonyana. The launch of the 2018 winter initiation season has significance as it signals the beginning of an important sacred path that many young men across the country will embark upon.
The launch also signals our readiness for the season as government and other key stakeholders who are expected to make a firm commitment to save lives and ensuring that all initiates return back to their homes alive.
Deputy Minister Obed Bapela emphasised the important role that parents and community leaders should play to ensure the save return of initiates. “We should all ensure that initiates are physically and psycologically ready to enter this sacred and revered cultural practiceâ€, said Deputy Minister.
