Deputy Minister Nel to Meet FNB CEO about the Academy for Municipal Excellence

The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Mr Andries Nel will on Wednesday, 26 September 2018 meet the CEO of First National Bank (FNB) in Johannesburg.

The meeting will be looking at the FNB Academy for Municipal Excellence (FAME) and the ongoing partnership with CoGTA on this programme.

The Department has been approach by FNB to collaborate on support to municipalities that has been identified as in distress and forms part of the list of 87 municipalities identified during the Minister’s Budget Vote during May 2018.

To this effect, FNB is partnering with CoGTA on this programme in support of the implementation of the Back to Basics Programme. This partnership initiative programme was established in 2014 to assist CoGTA to improve and strengthen the institutional and administrative capacity in municipalities by focusing on the FAME programme, which amongst others aims at inculcating a culture of service excellence.

The main objective of the FAME is to provide local government practitioners with a platform to vigorously debate critical issues pertaining to the sector, in order to find solutions which can be implemented and thus enhance the overall efficiency and service delivery by municipalities.

The FAME programme is a culmination of a successful involvement of FNB as a private sector contribution in assisting local government in improving service delivery.
