The Ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) held a two days strategic planning session from 27 – 28 July 2019.
The successful strategic planning session was attended by the Minister of CoGTA, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Deputy Minister Obed Bapela and Deputy Minister Parks Tau. The session was held with the senior managers across CoGTA.
Through the strategic planning session, CoGTA brought into action the Kawuleza approach, which is President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call for accelerated service delivery. This speaks directly to CoGTA which plays an important role through municipalities that should function effectively to deliver services to communities.
The strategic planning session gave the new leadership and understanding of the work and the huge task that still lies ahead to ensure effective functioning municipalities and the institution of traditional leadership.
The new plan is the CoGTA’s contribution to achieving the seven Apex Priorities of the sixth administration outlined by the President during the SoNA.
Minister Dlamini Zuma emphasised the importance of ensuring that clear targets are set to ensure that we respond positively to the challenges within our portfolio.
“As we finalise the CoGTA programme of action, we bear in mind the expectations from South Africans to have effective functioning municipalities that deliver services as expected”, said Minister Dlamini Zuma.
The outcomes of the two-day strategic planning session, will inform the priorities to be announced by Minister during the delivery of the Budget Vote on the 10th of July 2019.
The expectations and the role of local government going forward will be outlined, including the interventions to set this important sphere on a new path and how it can positively impact on the lives of communities.
