The National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL) will in terms of section 8 (1) (b) of the National House of Traditional Leaders Act, 2009 (Act 22 of 2009) open for the year 2020.
The NHTL will be officially opened by President Cyril Ramaphosa on the 25th of February 2020. The address by the President constitutes an important milestone and speaks to the significance of this institution which is fully recognised through our Constitution.
The official opening of the NHTL is important as it allow the house to continue with its important and primary task of promoting the interests of communities in our country as traditional leaders are custodians of cultures and heritage.
The institution of traditional leadership is an integral part of South Africa’s constitutional democracy and it remains a vital for many communities. The annual opening of the House and debate will allow members of the house to engage and agree on the new programme of action that will emanate from the debate of the President’s address.
