Every Municipality Must Work

Deputy Minister Masemola to Lead the Ministerial Support and Interventions Outreach to Priority Districts of Limpopo – Mopani and Sekhukhune

The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Dr Namane Dickson Masemola will lead the Ministerial support and intervention outreach from 26 to 27 November 2024 targeting the following priority districts: Mopani and Sekhukhune.

The Deputy Minister will be accompanied by MEC for COGHSTA in Limpopo, Mr Basikopo Makamu, District Mayors, Local Mayors, Councillors, Municipal Speakers, representatives from SALGA as well as Traditional leaders and senior government officials across the three-spheres of government.

The Limpopo engagement is the fifth in a series of targeted programmes, that aim to enhance and turnaround the performance of municipalities in line with CoGTA theme of ensuring that, “Every municipality works”.

This support and interventions approach to municipalities finds expression in the Constitution, Section 154 which enjoins both the provincial and national spheres of government to support and strengthen the capacity of municipalities to perform their functions effectively and efficiently.

The targeted focus is informed by the latest Auditor General’s report and the State of Local Government Report in respect of the performance of local government.

The engagement will deliberate on a joint programme of action based on areas of collaboration to strengthen municipalities in key deliverables that include, (1) Administration; (2) Governance; (3) Financial Management; (4) Political stability; (5) Service Delivery; etc.
