Every Municipality Must Work

Ministers Hlabisa Convenes a Webinar on the Implementation of the Standard Draft by-law for Township Economies

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Mr Velenkosini Hlabisa, will on Monday, 25 November 2024, convene a webinar on the implementation of the standard draft by-law for township economies.

On the 15th of November 2024, the President announced various measures to deal with the growing concerns with regards to spaza or tuck shops implicated in the rise in reported cases of food-borne illnesses and deaths.

The President’s message is a call to action for all to play their part in addressing the food-borne illness incidents and to prevent future outbreaks as well as provide laws and regulations to harmonise the township economy ecosystem and provide norms
and standards.

To ensure that all interventions are being implemented to the fullest, multidisciplinary teams in government and various key stakeholders are working together to achieve this objective.

Municipalities are, therefore, an important element in the implementation of by-laws and other interventions geared to bring an end to this challenge.

To this effect, Minister Hlabisa will engage with MECs; Mayors; Accounting Officers responsible for local government and Traditional Affairs; Small Business Development; Economic Development; Home Affairs: Environmental Affairs; Health;
SALGA, National House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders.

Date: 25 November 2024
