As the host of the 5th meeting of Joint Task Forces for the Disaster Management of BRICS Member Countries, we are ready to welcome all delegates to South Africa.

The hosting of this meeting in eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality has great significance as the Metro has seen a number of disasters which led to the destruction of properties and infrastructure owing to climate change. This makes eThekwini a good case study in the quest to ensure disaster risk reduction through risk-informed and climate resilient innovations.
