The International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR), observed annually on October 13, is a global event aimed at promoting a culture of risk awareness and disaster reduction. The IDDR was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1989 as part of its recognition of the importance of reducing the risks and impacts of natural disasters. Each year, the IDDR focuses on a specific Theme related to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). These Themes are aligned with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (SFDRR), which is a global blueprint for reducing disaster risks and losses.
